Book Award Tickets via Aeroplan Site

I know it is too late to book a flight only a few weeks away but that’s the way it is. I have already spent lots of time on the Aeroplan site for a return flight Vancouver – Frankfurt and some findings:

  • The fuel surcharge is higher for ‘business’ (why’s that?, because the pods are heavier and you can bring more baggage!).
  • If you want to return ‘economy’ (flying from Europe is during the day so you don’t need really need the business class) the number of miles you need is still the same! I would have thought that you could have booked the flight for less (75,000 miles for example, 90,000 being required for business all the way and 60,000 for economy all the way).
Direction Stops Type Miles Tax ($)
Outbound 1 Business 90,000 909
Inbound 1 Business
Outbound 1 Business 90,000 754
Inbound 1 Economy
Outbound 1 Economy 60,000 599
Inbound 1 Economy

The taxes with the ‘dreaded’ fuel surcharge:

  1. Air Canada/Aeroplan are dreadfully high when it comes to “extra fees”.
Buying a ticket or a reward ticket in my experience has AC/AP showing the most expensive fees.
