Is it an earthquake?!

I think it was around 6 AM and the room was literally shaking. Initially I thought it was an earthquake, but Manitoba is not California, so it couldn’t be an earthquake I reasoned.

Then I realized, it was a freight train going by. It was like that scene from ‘My Cousin Vinnie’ when Joe Pesci wakes up in the middle of the night because of the train. The image shows a view from a higher vantage point, looking down at a train with several freight cars on a railway track. The train is passing through an area with grass on either side of the tracks. In the background, there is a large commercial building with a parking lot and a few cars. A utility pole is also visible in the foreground.

The image shows a view from above of two freight train cars on parallel tracks. One train car is green, and the other is white. In the background, there is a parking lot with a few cars and a large building. A utility pole is visible in the foreground, and there is some grass and vegetation near the train tracks.

The image shows a train with several freight cars on a railway track. The train is viewed from above, and the freight car in the center has the text "BURLINGTON NORTHERN" written on it. There is a utility pole in the foreground, and a grassy area separates the railway tracks from a paved area and a building in the background. The hotel is Fairfield by Marriot in Winnipeg and truth is that I stayed a few more times on that side of the hotel and the train didn’t bother me except with this occasion. Either I sleept too deep or no train passed by.

  1. I have had the same experience at the Holiday Inn Downtown in Shreveport, LA. It is only a nuisance in low level rooms on one end of the hotel.
