Air Canada’s launches Rouge, the low cost carrier

The image is an advertisement for Air Canada's new leisure airline, Air Canada Rouge. The text on the left side of the image reads "ROUGE MEANS GO." Below this, the Air Canada Rouge logo is displayed with the tagline "go more." On the right side of the image, there is a picture of an airplane with the Air Canada Rouge branding, and the text "Introducing Air Canada's new leisure airline." The background features a cloudy sky.

The service will begin on July 1, 2013, unless the world ends this Friday :). The following destinations will be served:

Europe

Toronto Athens
Toronto Venice
Montreal Athens
Toronto Edinburgh

The Caribbean

Toronto Punta Cana
Toronto Liberia
Toronto San José
Toronto Puerto Plata
Toronto Varadero
Toronto Kingston
Toronto Santa Clara
Toronto Cayo Coco
Toronto Holguin
Toronto Samana
The destinations are areas where demand for leisure travel has been growing, said Ben Smith, Air Canada’s chief commercial officer. But many are routes that didn’t generate adequate profits under Air Canada’s existing cost structure.

“The creation of this carrier is to assist us in serving many destinations that our existing model does not work on a competitive basis,” Smith said.

“This is not viewed as entering markets that we haven’t been in the past, they are markets that we’ve always liked to serve, some we’ve already served in the past, we just had to have the right vehicle to exploit them properly.”

For now, most of the flights will depart from Toronto, but the airline plans to add more Canadian gateways, along with more getaway destinations throughout 2013. It is also examining the potential of flights to Asia.

I will get $50 also, sorry about that.

I thought that after being purchased by Scotiabank they will no longer have this double bonus promotion(usually it is $25), but they do have it at least for this year.

I used to have a post with this ‘announcement’ but now I have decided to spam my own posts. I know it is pathetic but I am allowed to :).

  2. Sometimes, you have to crash your own party. 😉

I’m excited for this service, as it might be a fun and easy way to get from Columbus to Toronto (Port Columbus International Airport’s ONLY international destination) to Edinburgh. I wonder if my Aegean miles will convert at a decent rate, though…
