UEFA Europa League Final 2013 in Amsterdam
I have received the above email and I said I should book the hotel first and then worry about whether I will win the ticket for the final.
Last year I did not win the lottery for the Munich final but after that I checked whether I could have booked Radisson or Marriott and of course all of them were sold out for the respective date. So lesson learned just book the hotel (it is good there is no penalty for cancelling).
It seemed strange it was Amsterdam as I knew the final was supposed to be in London and I even had an ‘argument’ with a friend who said only 3 years ago the final was there so it was not possible so soon.
However, I thought I was wrong so I decided to book the hotel, and found a downtown Radisson 50,000 points/day. I was about to book it when I realized it is the Europa League final and not the UEFA Champions League final that will be in … London*.
I have been to London so many times I am not so keen going there too soon. I considered the Champions League final as an opportunity to visit a city I haven’t been to before. I have ‘visited’ Amsterdam before (landed in the morning, left in the evening) and I would have liked to go there for more than some 9 hours, even if that time was the most activity intense I have ever spent in a city (the advantage of having the airport very close to the city by train) – Bicycles of Amsterdam 3, Bicycles of Amsterdam 2.

You and I think alike. I read this post and it is like I would have wrote it. I too received email, thought it was champions league, then realized it is not. Also applied last year for munich, no luck. Will try this year, and will book hotel by now, just in case. Also, London is cool, but expensive. The champions falls on USA’s memorial weekend, so longer visit for me! I too would hope it is a different country, one i have not visited. Just like this summer that I went to poland and ukraine, two new cultures for me.

I didn’t have luck with CL Final tickets in Madrid a couple years ago, but watched the game in a bar near the stadium anyway–and it was awesome. Bummed it’s in London because 1) it’s London and 2) since teams from only a handful of countries will likely make the final anyway, it would be nice to have it at a potential neutral site (like Amsterdam. Or Chicago).
I’m hoping to score some tickets to see Man U play when they come down to Sydney. Fingers crossed.
