Just Registered for Park Plaza Promotion

    ByThe Skeptical Traveler June 28, 2012June 5, 2024

The link for the promotion is www.parkplazaultimatenightgiveaway.com/ and the link for the Park Plaza locations in the world is www.parkplaza.com/destinations/ (deselect the other Club Carlson hotels). I am planning on going to Europe this summer but unfortunately I will not be anywhere near any of the Park Plaza hotels. However, who knows how my plans will change. Perhaps…

Book Award Tickets via Aeroplan Site

    ByThe Skeptical Traveler June 23, 2012June 5, 2024

I know it is too late to book a flight only a few weeks away but that’s the way it is. I have already spent lots of time on the Aeroplan site for a return flight Vancouver – Frankfurt and some findings: The fuel surcharge is higher for ‘business’ (why’s that?, because the pods are…

“The Dirtiest Things in a Hotel Room”

    ByThe Skeptical Traveler June 18, 2012June 5, 2024

New research showed that remotes and light switches are among the most contaminated items in hotel rooms. “Researchers from the University of Houston took bacteria samples from several items in hotel rooms in three regions of the United States. While the toilet and the sink were expected to have high levels of bacteria, researchers also…

Fairmont Visa Signature Card, my 1st Credit Card post, no affiliate link

    ByThe Skeptical Traveler June 16, 2012June 5, 2024

I did not think I would write such a post but this is a Credit Card I would sign up for. It is the Fairmont Visa Signature Card:  It is interesting that there is no fee for the first year plus there are other benefits too: I wonder whether it is possible to apply, get the free nights then cancel the card without any penalties. The link for the card: www.fairmont.com/promo/card The Fairmont hotels in the world (click on the image to see the complete list):

Played Star Alliance Game, retail value of 1st prize $375,000 – closes June 14

    ByThe Skeptical Traveler June 13, 2012June 5, 2024

First time I got all questions so I was presented with this map of an airport: The ToC says: ” and  then try to guess the location of a virtual Star Alliance branded plane hidden on a map by dropping a pin.” What does it actually mean? Do you have to drop the pin on a plane or the plane is hidden as per ToC and you cannot see it at all so it is completely wrong to drop it on a plane that it can be seen, it has to be beside it. It isn’t clear for me at all but I would go for the hidden definition rather than choosing an existing plane (even if searching on Internet many people dropped the pin on a plane). By the way I should have done this research before playing – no contest should be taken lightly, especially with what it is at stake 🙂 – and had a more scientific approach. For example I found: “It is easy to see its ORD and that Terminal…

Test drive a BMW and get a $50 Fairmont Hotels & Resorts gift card

    ByThe Skeptical Traveler June 8, 2012June 5, 2024

After the Air Canada offer, I received the above e-mail. What is this, the BMW Canada summer offensive? Will I get one from Marriott too? I am Platinum there.

Test drive a BMW and get $50 voucher for Air Canada’s eBoutique

    ByThe Skeptical Traveler June 7, 2012June 5, 2024

I have to say the offer that landed in my inbox was tempting; test drive a BMW and be paid (sort of) for it. And the dealer would treat me very deferentially, after all Air Canada would not send the offer to anyone. However, I know I will not buy a BMW so I will have to pass. I do not want to help financing 6 week vacation plus numerous statutory holidays, generous social benefits, free universal health care (and a good one) and free higher education :). I want to buy a car made in North America, preferably from the Big Three. They (the companies and workers) need everyone’s support, support to be shown by buying an American car. Did you know that Big Three’s brands lost market share in nine of the ten U.S. states that have the highest auto sales between 2008-2011? The big winners were German brands such as Volkswagen and BMW as…
