America’s Worst Airports for Flight Delays

“San Francisco Airport gets raves for its art museum, restaurants, and a Zen Room stocked with yoga mats. But SFO airport is among the worst three U.S. airports for flight delays, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).

No. 1 Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR)
Flights Delayed: 23.83%
Best Time Window: Before 7 a.m.
Worst Time Window: 1–11 p.m.

No. 2 San Francisco International Airport (SFO)
Flights Delayed: 21.78%
Best Time Window: Before 8 a.m.
Worst Time Window: 10 a.m.–10 p.m.

No. 3 Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW)
Flights Delayed: 20.1%
Best Time Window: Before 8 a.m.
Worst Time Window: Anytime after 3 p.m.”

  1. Newark doesn’t have a museum, yoga mats, or great restaurants last time I checked. Seems they’re at 3/4 is good enough for me at SFO. At least I won’t mind waiting.

  2. Maybe I’ve been lucky at SFO. I tend to use it in the early evening or for the red-eye and in the last 8 years, with some 160 flights in and out, I’ve never encountered a weather delay.

    However, I really don’t know about Zen, or the dining. First off, the whole TSA process there is truly horrible – badly organised, huge lines, insolent and vile staff, which certainly gets me out of any Zen like mood. And I’ve yet to find any restaurant there where I’d like to eat. At some of them the food is passable, but the atmosphere is terrible (who wants to eat in a corridor or in a food court?), and everything’s closed if you want to eat ahead of your red-eye.
