More airline passengers caught with guns

“The number of guns found nationally by airport screeners has more than doubled in the past eight years — from 660 in 2005 to 1,556 in 2012.

This year is on pace to surpass that total again: the 1,150 guns discovered through August is a 20 per cent increase over the same period last year.

TSA officials decline to speculate about the reasons behind the increase, but say the most common excuse from passengers is that they simply forgot they had a gun in their bag.

Passengers can travel with guns, but only when they declare them and put them in checked bags that are hard-sided with a lock.” (I did not know that.)

“If the state or jurisdiction where the airport is located has tolerant gun laws, police at the airport will frequently hand the gun back to the passenger and recommend locking it in a car or finding some other safe place for it.”

“In July, a grenade was found in a carry-on bag of a passenger headed to Denver, prompting this Tweet from Dankers, the TSA spokeswoman: “Friendly reminder 2 leave your grenades at home when travelling by air.””

  1. As Barry Switzer so eloquently said, “oh the grandkids were playing with it and they put it in my bag instead of putting it back in the night stand……geez”…….lucky they didn’t think a burglar was in the bathroom and plug 4 rounds through the door………

Actually what we should do is have a SGT Snuffy as a recruiter at each airport and when they show up thank them and put them on the first flight to Damascus and thank them for their service for God and Country!

  2. Do you want to teach people to stop bringing guns on board?
Don’t give the guns back; simply confiscate them.
After doing that a few times I’m sure they’ll get the message.
    Guns are relatively expensive.

  3. As a retired Army officer I love your idea Emily! It is spot on……but the problem is we are a violet country built on arms production and we love guns! Until we stand up and take charge of this issue it is going to haunt the civilized world……………

Read Eisenhower’s parting speech to the country……and it is from a 5 Star General talking about the defense industry………

  4. Thank you – actually my father, uncle and son were all in the Army, my son most recently is a veteran of Kuwait. You’re right, we do have an attitude problem. Looks like we haven’t reached the tipping point yet….but we will, I’m sure.
